Reviews
Came here with a German friend, we were talking english only and we asked the guy at the entrance to go in. He told us that only Dutch language is spoken inside, I thought that was a bad joke, he said “this is not a joke”.
So we went to another place where we were welcomed.
Unbelievable experience in Amsterdam in almost 2024!!!!
Update: Replying to your answer in my review, I deny what you say about the bouncer saying “only Dutch music inside” you’re a lier and racist. The bouncer said clearly “only Dutch language is spoken inside” and he did not allow us to go in cause we were talking English. I told him “this is a joke” cause I thought it was and I laughed. He said “this is not a joke” . My friend and I, as foreigners visiting your country and city would not mind to listen Dutch music because that’s why we are in this country for. But this place and the bouncer only wants local people talking Dutch.
Reading the other reviews about this place is easy to conclude the way this place treats people and foreigners and the person who replies all the reviews always has an answer to every review and always evade these kind of behaviours.
Do not come here people, there are a lot of better places around where you will be welcomed.
A tiny little bar which could fit 50 in at a push. I went on a Monday night and there was singing and dancing as if it we the weekend.
The singer sung a mix of Dutch and English songs and the vibe was welcoming of tourists but not made for tourists - well worth a visit.
Great place for a real Dutch experience.
They didn't let us in...
One of the oddest places I ever visited in my life. Great if you like a traditional Amsterdam setup, but it was ever so surreal. The music was dreadful and it was odd to have to tip the toilet lady - after a lot of beers you see her a lot.
Wouldn't go again but if you are with a good crowd, are already buzzing and are open to a bizarre experience, you should consider it.
Re. comments about racism... I've not experienced it as a problem despite being with a group that included people from Japan and Turkey. But perhaps things have changed since then?
I have been here several times in the past and I always enjoyed it. Today I brought two Asian friends of mine here, and we were stopped by the door man, who told us it's full (but it's not) and there is no point waiting. I can't find a word to describe the expression on his face. I was shocked by the attitude. We just had two beers at dinner before coming here so we were totally sober. I can't believe racists still exist in this wonderful country. I love this city and I certainly want to come back to this great bar again. But I feel so embarrassed with my friends and I felt obliged to say it here and hopefully the owner can see this post.
Racist place. I was there with two of my friends and the guard wouldn't let us in saying that it was full.
But, he let other people enter after us as we were standing there.
I am shocked to see such a treatment on the basis of my skin color in this country.
Super fun place to get a drink and have some fun
This place is incredible. We came from Chicago and stumbled upon this place, and it was the best find of the trip. 95% locals (we're still not sure if we were even supposed to be there!), and a Dutch singer singing Dutch singalong songs karaoke style. Everyone in the bar sang along, including us even though we don't speak Dutch! The bartender was amazing and gorgeous (as we found out, pretty much everyone is gorgeous in Holland), and we even did a shot of "Dutch Dynamite" with her, which tasted like Jaeger mixed with salted Carmel. Amazing night all around!
